Getting to the Valley
There are three airports that serve the Rio Grande Valley, located in the cities of Brownsville (BRO), Harlingen (HRL), and McAllen (MFE). Please be advised; McAllen International Airport (MFE) is approximately an 1hr. and 29min. drive to the conference location. For convenience purposes, we recommend you fly into either BRO or HRL.
Most likely, you’ll need to fly through at least one of the following major cities on your way here: Austin, Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio.
If you’ve ever lived in Texas (or some other big sky state), you probably aren’t intimidated by a long road trip. It will take you about four and a half hours from San Antonio (I-69C & I-2 E) to the Island, or six hours from Houston (I-69 East).
Getting to and around the Island
Depending upon how you get to the Valley, you’ll face different options for getting to the Island. The Valley does provide Lyft services.
The Brownsville / South Padre Island Airport (BRO) offers a regular shuttle to and from the airport, and the service is free. See the Schedule. It is about an hour trip using the free shuttle from the Brownsville airport to South Padre Island.
If flying into the Valley International Airport in Harlingen (HRL), there are taxi and shuttle options. B.B.’s Taxi is an affordable option that can pick your party up in a minivan, Platinum Transportation offers shuttle services, or you can just get a cab or rental car at the airport.
Once on South Padre, the Island Metro offers free rides up and down the island.
